Match Report - Reading 1 (6) vs. Oxford Isis 1 (8) - 21/10/07
Reading Uni 1 faced there first game of the season against an experienced Isis team. Despite one end having never played together before, Reading were quickly out of the blocks with Jon Wright and Andy Dodson both scoring early on. Isis responded with two goals to even things up before Jon and Charlotte Turner replied for Reading. Isis pulled a goal back but Gavin Robbins made it 5-3 to Reading at half-time.
The second half was frustrating for Reading with Isis' superior experience proving crucial as they scored several long range shots to take the lead. Andy pulled one back for Reading but it was to no avail as Isis ran out 8-6 winners.
Match Report - Reading 2 (3) vs. Oxford City 2 (10) - 21/10/07
Following the first team match, Reading University's second team were up against Oxford City 2. Considering half the team were made up of players that had never played a match before, Reading Uni put up a fantastic performance in the first half with an early long shot from Sam Haynes as well as a goal from Charlotte Turner. Oxford City were playing a very inexperienced side and even though Reading's defence was good, it wasnt enough to prevent Oxford from gaining a significant lead.
With fresh legs on after 2 half time substitutions, Reading were ready for the second half. Charlotte was set up by Laura Goulden for a short goal from the back of the post, however, Oxford went on to win 10-3.
For their first ever game in the league, Reading Uni 2 played brilliantly and with more games and tournaments coming up, will only continue to improve and develop their skills ready for the Southerns in November.
Match Report - Reading (2) vs. Norwich Knights (8) - 4/11/07
Match Report - Reading (5) vs. Croydon 2 (8) - 4/11/07
Reading travelled to Norwich to play in the first round of the EKA cup, with the winner of a three team pool to go through to the next round. Both opponents were more experienced, but Reading put in two good performances on the day. The opponents in the first match, Norwich Knights, were well drilled and played a fast structured game. Reading countered with some excellent defending, especially from Charlotte Turner, frustrating the Norwich attack. Although 4-0 down at halftime the team battled well in the second half forcing two penalties from Norwich, which were ably converted by Eric Van Looy. The game finished 8-2 to Norwich, a good reflection of the game. The second match against Croydon 2 was a closer affair, with Reading able to control the first half with good goals from Sam Haynes, Andrew Dodson and David Green ensuring a 4-2 lead at half-time. Unfortunately, Croydon 2 managed to work their way back into the game and used their superior experience to run out 8-5 winners by the final whistle.
